Which one do I need?
| Your situation | The deed poll | Who signs |
|---|---|---|
| I am 16 or over and changing my own name | Adult deed poll | You, in front of two witnesses |
| My child is under 16 | Child deed poll | A parent, with everyone who has parental responsibility agreeing |
| My child is 16 or 17 | Adult deed poll, in their own name | The young person |
| I changed my name before and lost the document | Replacement deed poll | You, again in front of two witnesses |
| I have my deed poll and need copies to send | Certified copies, ordered with a deed | Nobody; we certify them |
| I got married and want my spouse's surname | Usually no deed poll: the certificate does it |
What arrives in the envelope
One envelope, posted the working day you order. Nothing is emailed as a PDF, because a printout is not what organisations accept.
- Your deed poll on certificate paper, drafted by a paralegal in the wording UK organisations recognise, with space for your signatures and for two witnesses.
- A signing and witnessing guide, so it is executed correctly first time.
- A who-to-tell guide and a cover letter template, for the organisations that hold your records.
- Any certified copies you ordered, each certified by us as a true copy, so the original stays at home.
- A board-backed envelope if you added one, so nothing arrives creased.

What you pay
The deed poll is £18.50. Everything else is optional and chosen at the checkout, so the total is in front of you before you pay.

How it works
- Apply online, in about five minutes. Your old name, your new name, the title you want, and where to post it. You pay by card, PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay or Klarna, and get a confirmation by email.
- A paralegal drafts and checks it. Every deed is read by a person before it is printed, and the names are checked letter by letter against what you typed.
- It is posted the same working day. With the guides and the cover letter template, in the Royal Mail service you chose.
- You sign it in front of two witnesses. Your name changes on the day you sign. Then you tell the organisations that hold your records, in the order that works.

How our service works, in detail
The guarantee
If a deed poll we drafted is refused by any UK organisation, tell us in writing, we take it up with them, and if it is still refused we refund you in full. How the guarantee works.
Questions people ask
Which deed poll do I need?
An adult deed poll if you are 16 or over and changing your own name. A child deed poll if the person is under 16, in which case a parent applies and everyone with parental responsibility must agree. A replacement if you have already changed your name and the original document is lost or damaged, whoever drafted it.
Do I need a solicitor?
No. GOV.UK says a deed poll does not have to be drafted or witnessed by a solicitor to be binding. Ours are drafted by paralegals, checked, and signed by you at home in front of two adult witnesses.
Do I have to register it anywhere?
No. There is no register of unenrolled deed polls. Enrolling a deed poll with the High Court is optional, costs £53.05, and does not make it more likely to be accepted. Enrolled and unenrolled deed polls explains the difference.
How long does it take?
Our part takes the working day you order: drafted, checked and posted that day. Royal Mail then takes one to five working days depending on the service you choose. Your name changes the moment you sign it in front of your witnesses.
Do I need to send you anything?
No. You apply online with your current name, your new name, your title and your address. Nothing is posted to us and no proof of identity is needed for us to draft it.
What does a typical order cost?
£18.50 for the deed poll plus the delivery you choose, so £23.49 with 1st Class. Certified copies, custom cover letters, a board-backed envelope and SafeKeep are optional and chosen at the checkout.
Is it accepted?
Yes. HM Passport Office, DVLA, HMRC, banks and every other UK organisation accept a correctly signed and witnessed deed poll, and ours are guaranteed: if one is refused, we take it up with the organisation and refund you if it is still refused.
Something else? Ask us, and a person replies by email, normally the same working day.
