Changing your name with Virgin Money

A branch or a form for your accounts, a letter for a credit card, a form of its own for a mortgage, and no special rule for a deed poll.

The short answer

Take proof of the change, such as your deed poll or marriage certificate, to a Virgin Money branch, or use its forms. A credit card needs a letter with a certified copy, and a mortgage its own form. Virgin Money asks for no enrolled deed poll and no passport first. Tell Nationwide separately if you bank there too.

How do I change my name with Virgin Money?#

It depends on what you hold. Virgin Money's help pages and forms give a different route for each kind of product.

What you hold How to change the name What Virgin Money asks for
A current or savings account A branch visit, or a form taken to a branch or posted Your marriage certificate, decree absolute or deed poll
A credit card A letter by post A certified copy of the document, such as your deed poll
A mortgage Its mortgage change of name form, by post The original or a certified copy of your deed poll or marriage certificate

A change on one does not reach the others. Virgin Money's credit card help says that if you have other products with it, you need to tell each one separately.

Current and savings accounts: in a branch or by form#

Virgin Money's help page on changing your details says the app and Internet Banking are for contact details, such as your address, phone number and email. To change your name or title, you visit your nearest branch and bring proof of the change, and Virgin Money gives a marriage certificate as the example. Its branch finder shows where they are; its forms call them stores.

Two forms do the same job, and both say Virgin Money will send back any document you post with them.

  • Savings. The change of name and/or address form says it changes all your Virgin Money savings and current accounts unless you tell it otherwise, and has space to list any you want left alone. It asks to see your marriage certificate, decree absolute or deed poll as evidence of the change, and your birth certificate or marriage certificate as evidence of your previous name. Every account holder signs, giving the new signature beside the old one. Take it to a branch with the documents, or post them: the form gives no postal address, so ask Virgin Money where to send it through its contact page.
  • The Essential Current Account, or an account opened with Northern Rock. Virgin Money lists its current account change of details form for these. It asks for the original marriage certificate, decree nisi, decree absolute or deed poll, and a new signature from anyone who has changed their name. Hand it in at a branch, or post it to Freepost Virgin Money, Current Accounts, NEA 3780, Newcastle upon Tyne NE3 4ZE. If you share a letterbox with someone you do not know or trust, the form offers to send your debit cards and chequebooks to a branch for you to collect.

What Virgin Money asks to see#

A deed poll is on every list of documents Virgin Money publishes, and none of its pages asks for it to be enrolled, or for a passport or driving licence in the new name beside it, as Lloyds and Santander do. Nor do they treat a new first name differently from a new surname. The only extra document is on the savings form: proof of your previous name, which your birth certificate or marriage certificate gives.

That means Virgin Money can be one of the first places you tell. DVLA, when your evidence is a deed poll, asks for one document in the new name issued in the last 12 months, and a UK bank statement is one of those it accepts, so a Virgin Money statement in your new name can help with your driving licence later.

Originals and copies depend on the route. In a branch you show your documents; by post, the account forms ask for the document itself, which comes back to you. A credit card needs a certified copy, and a mortgage takes either. Virgin Money's credit card help describes a certified copy as one signed by a professional to confirm it is a true copy, and says the person certifying it must not be related to you, live at your address or be in a relationship with you. What is a certified copy? explains what they write, and we certify copies of the deed polls we draft.

Changing the name on a Virgin Money credit card#

A credit card is changed by post. Virgin Money's credit card help asks for a certified copy of the legal document confirming the change, such as your marriage certificate or deed poll, with a short covering letter explaining the reason, your card number, and your signature in both your old and new names. Send it to Virgin Money Credit Cards, PO Box 5293, Worthing, BN11 9TL.

For a Virgin Atlantic credit card, the same page gives Virgin Atlantic Credit Cards, PO Box 5294, Worthing, but Virgin Money's help pages give two different postcodes for it, so check through its credit card contact page before you post.

Changing the name on a Virgin Money mortgage#

Virgin Money's mortgage help says it needs the legal documents and authorised signatures. Print its change of name form and post it with your documents to Customer Ownership, Virgin Money, Jubilee House, Newcastle upon Tyne NE3 4PL. The form asks for:

  • after a marriage, the original marriage certificate or a certified copy;
  • after a divorce, to go back to a previous name, the original or a certified copy of your birth certificate or deed poll;
  • after a deed poll, the original deed poll or a certified copy;
  • your previous and new signatures, which Virgin Money keeps to verify your signature on the mortgage in future.

The form says Virgin Money will deal with the request as soon as possible, and gives no timescale.

Adding or removing someone named on the mortgage is a separate application, which Virgin Money calls a change of parties. Its page on it gives a £185 fee if the request is agreed, with solicitors' fees on top, and says to allow at least 12 weeks. The name on the register of title to your home is a separate matter for HM Land Registry.

Virgin Money and Nationwide#

Virgin Money's business transferred to Nationwide Building Society on 2 April 2026, and its forms now carry Nationwide's name, but Virgin Money says you still manage your Virgin Money accounts as before. A change of name with one does not update the other: Virgin Money's credit card and mortgage help both say that if you also have an account with Nationwide, you need to update it there separately. Changing your name with Nationwide covers its process. For every other bank, changing your name with your bank compares how they work.

Questions people ask

Can I change my name with Virgin Money online or in the app?

No. Its help page says the Mobile Banking app and Internet Banking change contact details, and that a new name or title means a visit to your nearest branch with proof of the change. The Credit Card app changes your address, email and landline, but a new name on a card goes by post.

Is there a Virgin Money change of name form?

There are three, one for each kind of product: the Change of name and/or address form for savings, the Current account change of details form for the Essential Current Account and accounts opened with Northern Rock, and a Change of name form for mortgages. A credit card has none; you write a short covering letter instead.

How do I change the name on a Virgin Money ISA?

Virgin Money's pages give no separate route for an ISA. Use the savings change of name and/or address form, which says it updates all your Virgin Money savings and current accounts unless you tell it otherwise, or take your documents to a branch.

How do I change my name at Virgin Money after marriage?

Take your marriage certificate to a branch, the example Virgin Money's own help gives, or send it with the right form and Virgin Money will post it back. For a credit card, send a certified copy with a covering letter instead. Changing your name after marriage covers the rest of your list.

Can I change my title to Mx with Virgin Money?

Not on a credit card: Virgin Money's credit card help says that at the moment you cannot update your gender or choose a gender-neutral title there. For current and savings accounts, its help says only that a change of title, like a change of name, is made in a branch. Mx and other gender-neutral titles covers other organisations.
